Can You Install a Home Battery on a Three-Phase House in Queensland?
Yes, a three-phase electricity supply does not rule out a home battery. The important question is how the proposed battery and inverter will connect to your home, and what you expect the system to do.
Three-phase supply is common in homes with larger electrical loads. A battery proposal for one of these homes deserves a closer look, especially if blackout backup is a reason you are buying it.
Bill savings and backup are different questions
An installer may propose a single-phase battery arrangement or equipment designed for three-phase supply. Do not assume the more expensive sounding option is automatically the right one. Ask how each proposed setup will affect your electricity bill under your meter and retailer arrangement.
Then ask a separate question: what works when the grid goes down? A system can offset electricity use in normal operation yet back up only selected circuits or one phase during an outage. If you want a particular air conditioner, water pump or other appliance to work in a blackout, name it before the quote is prepared. The installer needs to check both its running load and startup demand.
If you already have solar
Tell the installer the make and model of your current inverter and whether the solar system is single-phase or three-phase. In many existing-solar setups, the current solar inverter can remain and a separate battery inverter can be added. The right arrangement depends on the actual equipment, network connection and goals for backup.

Questions for the written quote
Is the proposed battery or inverter single-phase or three-phase?
How will electricity use be measured and offset across our phases?
Which circuits and phases will work during a blackout?
Can the solar panels recharge the battery during an outage?
Does the price include any switchboard work and backup wiring?
Are there network connection requirements or export limits to account for?
Make sure the answers appear in the design and quote. Our quote comparison guide gives you a broader checklist.
Battery Match QLD can help you collect the basic details before speaking with an installer. Send a recent bill and, if you can, a photo of the labels on your solar inverter. We can prepare a Battery Fit Check and, where possible, introduce you to one suitable installer who can assess the property and give a formal quote. There is no cost to use our service and no obligation to proceed. Start your Battery Match.
A suitably licensed installer must confirm the electrical design, network requirements and blackout capability for your home.
