Home Battery Rebate in Queensland: What Applies in 2026?

If you’re looking for a home battery rebate in Queensland, the main program to ask about is the Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program.

It can reduce the cost of an eligible battery connected to a new or existing solar system. The government describes the discount as around 30% for a range of eligible systems, but the dollar amount depends on the battery and the rules applying when it is installed.

Who can qualify?

The federal program supports eligible battery systems with a nominal capacity from 5 kWh to 100 kWh. Its discount is calculated using small-scale technology certificates, with support available for the first 50 kWh of usable capacity.

The battery and inverter must meet the program’s product requirements, and the installation must involve an appropriately accredited battery installer. A battery that only stores electricity from the grid, without solar, does not qualify under this program.

Your installer should check the full requirements for the system proposed for your home.

Do I need to apply for the discount?

Usually, you deal with the installer or retailer. The federal government says they may provide an upfront price reduction or a rebate after installation. Ask which method applies to your quote and get the amount in writing.

You should be able to see:

  • The price before the discount

  • The discount amount

  • The final price you will pay

  • When and how the discount will be provided

  • Any costs that are excluded from the quote

Why does the installation date matter?

Program changes took effect on 1 May 2026. The discount calculation now varies by battery capacity, and the applicable certificate factor is set by the installation date. A quote prepared earlier in the year may need updating if the installation happens later.

Before signing, ask the installer to confirm that the quoted price and discount will still apply on the expected installation date.

Get the right system first

A larger rebate is not a good reason to buy a battery that is too big for your home. Ask how the proposed size relates to your solar generation, evening electricity use and expected payback period.

Battery Match QLD can help you begin the enquiry and, where partner coverage is available, introduce you to an installer who can assess your property and explain an eligible quote.
