Queensland Battery Booster Is Closed. What Battery Discount Can You Get in 2026?
Updated September 2026
If you’ve searched for a home battery rebate in Queensland, you may have seen references to the Battery Booster program and rebates of $3,000 or $4,000.
Those figures belonged to an older Queensland Government program. Battery Booster closed to new applications on 8 May 2024. You cannot apply for a new Battery Booster rebate in 2026.
There is, however, a current federal battery discount that eligible Queensland households can access. The two programs are easy to mix up, so here is the difference.
What was Queensland’s Battery Booster program?
Battery Booster was a Queensland Government scheme that helped eligible homeowners with the cost of installing an approved battery system. Depending on their circumstances, applicants could receive a rebate of up to $3,000 or $4,000.
The program closed to new conditional approval applications on 8 May 2024. If a website still tells you to apply for that rebate now, check when the information was written.
What is available in 2026?
The Australian Government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Program provides a discount for eligible battery installations connected to new or existing solar panels.
The government describes it as a discount of around 30% for a range of eligible systems. That is a broad guide, not a fixed dollar amount for every household. The value depends on the proposed battery, its usable capacity and the program rules applying when it is installed.
The federal program changed on 1 May 2026. If you have an older quote, ask the installer to check its discount calculation and final price against your expected installation date.

Do you apply for the federal discount yourself?
In the usual process, the installer or retailer explains how the discount will be provided. It may appear as an upfront reduction in the quote or be paid as a rebate after installation.
Ask for three figures in writing: the price before the discount, the discount amount and the final price you will pay. Also ask when you receive the discount. Don’t assume an advertised battery price includes installation or every piece of electrical work your home needs.
Does any battery qualify?
No. The federal program has requirements for the battery, inverter, installer and installation. Eligible systems must be connected to a new or existing solar system. A battery that only stores electricity from the grid does not qualify under this program.
An accredited installer needs to confirm whether the system proposed for your property meets the rules. They should also explain why that battery size suits your solar generation and electricity use.
Start with the final quote
A discount can make a battery more affordable. It cannot tell you whether the battery is right for your home.
Ask what the finished installation will cost, what is included and what savings the installer expects for your electricity use. If blackout backup matters to you, make sure it is included in the design and written quote.
Battery Match QLD helps homeowners begin that conversation. Tell us about your property, existing solar system and what you want from a battery. Where we have partner coverage, we can introduce you to a suitable installer for an assessment and formal quote.
Battery Match QLD provides general information and installer introductions. Our service is free for homeowners. Participating installers pay referral fees, and the installer is responsible for confirming eligibility, technical suitability and the final price.
