What Should Be Included in a Home Battery Installation Quote?

A written quote should tell you what will be installed, what the system is expected to do and what you will pay. If you cannot work that out from the document, ask for a revised quote before signing.

This checklist focuses on the contents of one quote. If you have several proposals, use our separate guide on how to compare battery quotes.

1. The equipment

Look for the exact battery and inverter make and model, usable battery capacity in kWh, power output in kW and any monitoring or control equipment. If a quote says only “10kWh battery” without a model, you cannot properly check the warranty or compare it with another proposal.

2. The installation work

The quote should identify where the battery is planned to go and which electrical work is included. Ask about switchboard upgrades, cabling, metering, connection applications and commissioning. If any of these depend on a site inspection, ask how a price change will be approved.

Battery placement has safety requirements. A licensed installer needs to assess the proposed location, including clearances and the wall or surface where it will be installed.

3. Backup during a blackout

If backup matters to you, the words “backup capable” are not enough. Get a written list of circuits or appliances the system will support, whether solar can keep charging the battery during an outage, and what extra equipment and work are included. Some battery installations do not provide backup unless specifically designed for it.

4. Price and battery discount

Find the total installed price including GST. The quote should explain any government discount used and show the amount applied. Check what would trigger an additional charge and when payments are due. For the current federal scheme, read our Queensland battery rebates and discounts guide.

5. Warranty and aftercare

Ask for the product warranty, installation workmanship terms and the name of the business that will handle a problem. Check whether the warranty has conditions about battery use, internet access or servicing. Keep the final quote, manuals, warranty documents and installer contact details together after installation.

6. A savings estimate you can follow

If the proposal includes bill savings or a payback period, it should show the electricity tariff, solar exports, expected battery use and other assumptions. No installer can promise the same saving to every home. Our payback guide explains the basic calculation.

Battery Match QLD can help you prepare before requesting a formal quote. Tell us about your home, your existing solar and what you want the battery to do. We can prepare a Battery Fit Check and, where possible, introduce you to one suitable installer. There is no cost to use our service and no obligation to proceed. Start your Battery Match.

The installer is responsible for the site assessment, electrical design, quote, installation and technical advice. Battery Match QLD provides general information and introductions.
